What Awana Is
The name Awana is from 2 Timothy 2:15 which states that "Approved
Workmen Are Not Ashamed." Awana is a Bible-centered, youth-
oriented weekday club program for ages from 3 years through high school.
Awana has carefully selected Bible verses to be memorized, and Scripture
portions are taught to prove doctrinal truths. Memory work is chosen to
establish a personal relationship between each clubber and Jesus Christ
as Savior and Lord, build up clubbers in Bible knowledge, and instill in
them a love and respect for God and His Word.
What Awana Does
The Awana program meets on Wednesday nights from 6:30 to 8:00 PM. It
begins with a flag ceremony and an opening prayer. This is followed
with a time for devotions wherein truths of the Bible are taught. This
then is followed with time for the clubbers to work in their handbooks
or workbooks with individual leaders. During this time they memorize
Bible verses or work on crafts which pertain to salvation, Christian
living, and dealing with everyday activities. Following this is a game
time where the activities teach not only the aspects of teamwork but
also good sportsmanship. The evening concludes with announcing the
scores for each team and a word of prayer before they are dismissed.
Cubbies
Ages 3-5
Cubbies learn simple Bible verse parts and hear interesting stories from
the Bible, plus they get to play fun, non-competitive games with other
kids their age in a safe atmosphere.
Sparks
Grades K-2
Sparks learn whole Bible verses and enjoy lessons presented through
Bible stories and other material. They play friendly, yet competitive
games and are given opportunity to earn prizes at the Awana Store by
learning verses and demonstrating a good attitude.
Truth & Training
Grades 3-6
T&T kids learn multi-verse passages and complete projects to help
them learn about God's word. They engage in thought-provoking lessons
and are challenged to become more like Jesus. This group plays
competitive games but is also expected to be good role models for the
younger kids. Kids in the T&T program can earn prizes at the Awana
Store, as well as credit to summer camp at the Iowa Regular Baptist
Camp.
24/7
Middle School & High School
The 24/7 group is the teen youth group that combines the Trek and
Journey small groups. The 24/7 group offers an opportunity to meet new
friends, have fun, and learn about God and how to apply His word in our
daily life. The time is balanced between games; large and small group
times that include Bible study and Scripture memory, opportunities to
earn points for Snack Shack each Wednesday evening. Monthly outings
consist of movie nights, weekend retreats, barn fest, sledding parties,
picnics, and other opportunities to hang out with friends.
Students today face endless challenges and pressures in their everyday
life. They need sound Biblical direction and people that care - they
will find just that with 24/7. They need encouragement, and tools that
will show them how to boldly follow the Savior every day, every week,
all year round — 24/7.
The Trek group consists of middle school aged teens that range from 6th
to 8th grade.
The Journey group consists of high school aged teens that range from 9th
to 12th grade.
The 24/7 group meets from 6:30 – 8:15 PM on Wednesday evenings during the
school year and is held in the youth room at the church.
